Avena Group is a leading company specialising in confidential waste management and recycling, committed to sustainable practices and secure data destruction. The client’s requirements for our services arose from their move to a new, purpose-built facility in Dereham.
The aim of this project was to strategically integrate existing furniture with new pieces, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic that aligned with their updated brand.

The brief
- Avena Group was transitioning from a rented property to a newly constructed, purpose-built facility in Dereham.
- Their primary objective was to maximise the use of their existing furniture, ensuring it could be seamlessly integrated into the new workspace.
- A crucial aspect of the brief was the aesthetic mismatch with the colour of their current furniture not aligning with their new corporate branding and potentially the new office furniture.
- Given Avena’s deeply ingrained sustainability ethos and budget consciousness, they requested that we replace the tabletops of their existing desks and coffee tables with new ones, but with a strong emphasis on recycling the old tops.
The challenges
This project presented several significant challenges that required exceptional flexibility and problem-solving:
- The most substantial hurdle was identifying a manufacturer capable of producing the precise “Nebraska grey oak” wood colour to match Avena’s existing internal doors.
- The order from our partner manufacturer NARBUTAS was far from standard; it involved ordering individual components separately to construct the required products, adding layers of complexity to procurement and logistics.
- Aligning with Avenas’ goal of recycling any old furniture components and their core business values required careful planning and coordination for the disposal of the old tabletops.
- What typically would be a 4-6 week project stretched over an unusually long period, commencing in 2022 when the building was merely a concept.
- The actual building was only completed by the end of 2023, but Avena could not occupy it immediately. The first round of furniture, initially planned for mid-2024, was ultimately delayed until the very end of 2024. This fluctuating timeline demanded immense flexibility from our iQ team.
The results
The project culminated in the full completion and comprehensive fit-out of Avena Group's new three-storey office building in Dereham.
- Through careful space planning, tailored design, and flexibility of the project management team, we successfully created a functional, visually cohesive, and sustainable workspace that aligns seamlessly with Avena’s brand identity and operational requirements.
- The successful integration of recycled and new, custom-matched furniture created an environment that is both efficient and reflective of Avena’s commitment to the environment.
